Producer Git (pronounced “JIT”) Beats is another notch in the belt of Staten Island’s list of hip-hop notables. Just a few days into calendar year 2009, Indie Planet Television has already come across a release that will ring in the CD players, IPODs and sound systems throughout the world for the remainder of year and beyond.
As an early frontrunner for album of the year (you heard it here first), GIT Beats hits the lab to deliver his brand of heavy drum/sample based hip-hop known as Say Cheeze. For GIT Beats, Say Cheeze is the culmination of 20 years in the game and the LP does not disappoint whatsoever. An avid record collector, GIT has appeared in the 2004 beat digger’s cult classic Deep Crates.
The production is the glue that holds together the cohesiveness of the album. Despite the various guest appearances such as LadyBug of Digable Planets, Goretex of NonPhixion, Rock of Heltah Skeltah, Prince Po of Organized Konfusion, the album highlights a consistency that is rarely seen in today’s contemporary hip-hop releases mainly due to the fact that albums are produced using the “Illmatic” method of finding the best producers which often takes away from the timelessness of an albums.
The guest collaborators on Say Cheeze were energized by the audio landscapes provided by GIT. Albums this good should never fly beneath the radar and after a career spent behind the scenes, Say Cheeze will push GIT Beats to the forefront of true school hip-hop producers.
