DeNea Conner Launches New Philly based NewsZine for the Young Folks

The Hip Hop Chronicle: A Free Newszine To Empower and Spark Teenagers

Philly, Philly, PA - Hip Hop has became the most popular musical genre in today's society, thus the birth of The Hip Hop Chronicle founded by Temple University alum, DeNea R. Conner. Using music as the bridge in which to reach the minds and hearts of younger generations, The Hip Hop Chronicle is making a difference in tomorrow's future; preparing the youth to be productive and active participants in the ever-increasing global society - mentally, economically, and politically. The Chronicles' cornerstone features include: education and financial literacy, career development, world news, health/style/image, the business of music and Teachers Talk/Students Speak.

Launched March 4, 2008, The Hip Hop Chronicle was created to engage and empower young readers to be informed, financially empowered, and educated citizens. With a belief that artistic expression stimulates teenagers, The Hip Hop Chronicle is distributed quarterly to over 75,000 high school students throughout the United States for free. Already partnered with schools in Bridgeport, CT; St Louis, MO; Philadelphia, PA; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; New Orleans, LA and Durham, NC with many more to be added.

In creating this unique publication specifically for young adults, The Hip Hop Chronicle® goals are to promote literacy, continuing education, life skills improvement, promote reading as a family activity, introduce talented youth to careers in journalism, music, marketing, management, finance and business.

"I think the Hip Hop Chronicle is a very innovative and inspiring approach to get young adults to read. It is a great tool to enhance literacy amongst the youth today. Reading and comprehension is the foundation to success, and any young adult interested in the advancing of him or herself has to stay current on the issues. The way you control a person is by what they know. Proper education is vital. We can only make decisions based on the information we have," stated Dr. Hanan Islam, Executive Director, World Literacy Crusade.

After 15 years of working in the pharmaceutical industry as a Cellular Biologist, Ms. Conner, Creator and Publisher of The Hip Hop Chronicle, ventured into the world of special events consulting working with such celebrities as Dem Franchize Boyz, Trina, Freeway and Allen Iverson. Upon being bit by the industry bug, Ms. Conner decided to use her talent to inspire teenagers 13-18 years old. Fusing her passion for education with her love for music, Ms. Conner developed the concept for The Hip Hop Chronicle which is the first media of its kinds to capture the attention of young people while in school and sanctioned by their teachers.

"Being raised in a family of educators and entrepreneurs, I was taught at an early age that education is the gateway to opportunity, independence, and more importantly - freedom! My goal is to motive young adults to aspire to greater achievements so that they can become competitive leaders/citizens socially, economically and financially in a world that's ever changing and growing. We need to give them a competitive edge - to prepare them for the future," said Conner.

With numerous celebrity compliments from Queen Latifah, Gabrielle Union, Pepa from Salt n Pepa, Trina, Ice T, Montell Williams, Bow Wow and Omarion, just to name a few, the Hip Hop Chronicle is poised to impact its readers and supporters.

The Hip Hop Chronicle will help prepare students for state and national standardized exams by sharpening their comprehension skills while increasing student interests by providing real-life relevant stories. In researching the potential benefits and impact the newspaper could have on the youth, Conner discovered that people who read the newspaper regularly are more likely to be active voters and apt to read other periodicals on a daily basis.
