Fisher Price: My First Photo Shoot

Indie Planet Fam and Fam-ettes -

Due to all this "attention" coming my way, "my inner publicist" told me it was time to start making sure my visuals and presentation were in alignment with my message and various brands.
Plus, due to the fact that I actually NEED to get these new flyers done for the workshops and a few other speaking engagements, I had been kinda anxious to get some great professional photos done.

When I first started looking for photographers, I started in my local music scene, a couple people who actually been on Indie Planet, I reached out to, but they didn't answer the email! (Lost opportunity, I tend to generate $$$ for whomever I work with, because I'm always speaking somewhere)

Finally I was speaking with the great K. Williams, manager to the stars about something totally unrelated (as friends tend to do) and the subject of photos came up.

He quickly jumped into manager mode (you have to be there for the actual transformation, it's a sight to see) and all was set. I came through with a whole bunch of different outfits. There were certain photos/poses that I have "visualized" being in magazines or magazine covers for about 3 years now. Like Ghost in the Cuban Linx skit, where he talks about having "Crazy Visions (SON!) about the Wally's he wanted to get dipped for the summer, its pretty much how my mind works.

When you're NOT a model or being paid to do a shoot, this means you have to bring your own clothes. Most people don't know - I'm actually ALWAYS dry cleaning my clothes so my pants and things were ready to go.
I broke out a suit and two blazers, and shirts that accessorized around my two best colors black and brown. .

I'm glad I actually went through the process of IRONING the clothes before I arrived, the photographer James suggested I do it again (touch-up ironing) and I did so and it saved us at least 30 minutes. We had two backdrops and had to run through a range of poses in ALL the outfits.

During the shoot, I was thinking "I'm born to do this, shoulda been a model". I found that I'm good at interpreting the photographer's vision. I've found that being on television prepares you for a lot of this stuff - with Music video tv in general, you have to DELIVER your lines - ---- ---
Towards the end, we got comfortable and familiar with the expectations and I think I was able to deliver.

We took 600 photos that day, it was weird - when we went through all the photos it seemed like it wasn't me,
I was really impressed. Some of the shots were READY TO GO with no post-processing needed.

Well, myself and the photographer produced some great work that I guarantee you'll see in the very near future - This photo shoot also gave me an EXCELLENT idea as well that I'm gonna post on MySpace.

This was a big first step - the visual must match. I was going HARD with one picture (reaction shot taken at a wedding) but now I have a variety of business photos for ANY occasion to feed the media and publicity machines across the blogosphere and mainstream pubs.
