I was so pleased with the feedback and emails from the first post, that I decided to take the time to deliver another post before I head to New York to consult some labels and public relations firms on putting together a New Media strategies for the "New Digital Music Business".



Myspace Is Not the Only Answer



I personally think that Myspace.com is one of the greatest innovations to ever impact the hip-hop artist community. It levels the playing field that existed between a major label artist and the unsigned and introduced the theory of an artist using a single platform and being able to "connect" with his/her fanbase, offer exclusive videos, photos, and video blogs (all referred to as contact) to his/her "friends" to the mainstream, especially the hip-hop community.

Before the World Wide Web became the place for social interaction, hip-hop artists connected with the public via fan clubs and in the late 80’s-early 90’s, there was widespread usage of 1-900 numbers which offered fans the opportunity to listen to a pre-recorded message from their favorite artist.
