MySpace Completes Application Gallery Beta Phase; Makes Applications Easily Available to All Consumers
MySpace, the world’s most popular social network, today announced the public launch of the Application Gallery on MySpace. Users visiting the MySpace Application Gallery, (http://apps.myspace.com), will be able to browse applications and integrate them into their MySpace home page and profile, giving them a more engaging and entertaining online experience.
For the first time, the Gallery will be promoted and fully available to MySpace users, meaning that all consumer facing Application Gallery components will be live:
The MySpace.com home page will feature an Application Gallery icon at the top of the page, so users can easily be directed to the Gallery
Users will have one-click access to the Application Gallery from their home page through their individual “Control Panels”
The Application Gallery splash page will be launched with featured apps in effort to further promote applications and support developers
Since the public beta launch of the Application Gallery in March, many MySpace users have already began enjoying and engaging with applications during the site’s beta phase. With more than 1,000 approved applications available, in a variety of growing categories ranging from music, politics and causes, quizzes and polls, video and more, the MySpace Application Gallery has provided more than 2.1MM installs to the MySpace community.
All approved applications will have their own profile page, similar to MySpace user pages, so users can easily “friend” any approved MySpace application. The Application Gallery will be accessible to all international MySpace users in their native language.
MySpace rolled out the Application Gallery in a phased approach in order to give developers the opportunity to test their applications directly with MySpace users. On February 5, 2008, the MySpace Developer Platform Site (http://developer.myspace.com), was created to give software developers around the world the chance to deeply integrate with MySpace. The second beta phase of the MySpace Developer Platform was announced on March 13, 2008, enabling developers to test their approved applications more broadly with MySpace users and see what other applications were being developed on the platform. This strategy supports MySpace’s commitment to bring quality applications that are safe and that provide end-users with the best possible experience.
“The MySpace Application Gallery enables the most meaningful and diverse online experience available on the Internet to-date,” said Chris DeWolfe, CEO and co-founder of MySpace. “MySpace was the original open platform, and the MySpace Application Gallery is the evolution of that vision, taking MySpace users around the world to the next level and empowering them to take control of their online presence in new and exciting ways.”
The innovation and creativity that MySpace is delivering to its users is a direct result of the company’s support of the developer community through the MySpace Developer Platform.
“Since launching the MySpace Developer Platform, we have had a tremendous opportunity to observe the remarkable ideas and creativity that today’s developer is capable of,” said MySpace CTO Aber Whitcomb. “We look forward to continuing to work with the developer community and provide the best possible integration within MySpace.”
