JonRyan: A Rising White Rap Star: Exclusive Interview

JonRyan: A Rising White Rap Star: Exclusive Interview

What is your name and what city do you rep?

JonRyan, Jonathan Ryan Hill. Born in Birmingham, I grew up in Irondale but when my parents split I moved to Morris which is north of Birmingham and I also spent a lot of time in Gulf Port and Biloxi, Mississippi as a kid. I consider myself a Birmingham artist.

What is unique about you and your music?

Well, when you work with me, I will always exceed your expectations, I am very versatile and I pull inspiration from a lot of great works. On my own my own wave. You just gotta hear me.

What shaped your music?

Life, death, love, heartbreak..

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

When I pictured myself 20 years from now, throwing away the opportunity. I am music. I can’t hide that from the world.

What type of music do you listen to?

Literally everything, but never too much of the same thing.

Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

Young Thug, he changed the landscape, he is misunderstood as well as an under appreciated mind.

How do you prepare for your performances?

I spend a lot of time with my music, I don’t even bring notes or a phone out in the studio. I repeat and repeat until I embed it into my memory. After I finish a song I rehearse and rehearse, I drive myself crazy. Very passionate about what I do.

What ignites your (song) writing flow?

Aggression and love. Frustration and relief, there is more than just one me.

What do you do when you don't do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I’m a family man, I love what I have, and I’m about my money. I work to provide and I work to invest in myself.

Success to you is...

Putting my heart and my soul into what I love, putting the spotlight on my city, and sharing my blessings with my people. I am a man of my people.

What do you wish you were told when you first started rapping that you think would help anyone recently starting artists out?

Invest in yourself, cliché quote: “It takes money to make money.” That applies whole heartedly to this industry.

Any upcoming projects?

Stay tuned for the rest of my album, Sucker, BlackandWhite, Singles, and great collaborations on the way!

Where do we find you music / music project?

You can give 3 tracks from Sucker and 3 tracks from BlackandWhite a listen right now on soundcloud.

Sucker as a whole is on its way to all platforms very soon, stay tuned.
