Immortal Technique Shakes Up Lower Sproul
As Berkeley students filled Lower Sproul Plaza on Friday to experience one of the most revered acts in underground hip-hop, Felipe Coronel was nowhere to be seen. For a time, indeed, the man better known to the music world as Immortal Technique hardly seemed like the afternoon's main attraction; Rebel Army duo Da Circle and veteran act Chino XL opened in impressive fashion, firing up the crowd with deft freestyles and establishing an atmosphere of dissent. Finally, Immortal Technique himself strode onto the stage in front of Eshleman Hall to a deafening ovation. Wearing baggy jeans and a camouflage jacket under flashing concert lights, Felipe Coronel exuded both old-school modesty and new-school confidence.
