Fresh Daily, J Period, Zaki Ibrahim join the party
'Brooklyn Keeps On Takin' It,' the mixtape king and the funk soul sensation

This week's additions to the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival 2008 lineup are Brooklyn's own Fresh Daily, High Water Music, Zaki Ibrahim and J Period.

On Day Two of the Festival, July 11th, Fresh Daily and the High Water Music roster including Sputnik Brown, Sucio Smash and P.Casso will be at powerHouse for 'Brooklyn Keeps On Takin' It.' The night is dedicated to the fresh new independent sound coming from the planet of Brooklyn. There is no better representative than the hardest working man in Fort Greene, Fresh Daily.

'Our mission is to bring talent and fans from all across the world to Brooklyn and celebrate Hip-Hop culture. We also want to give local and developing talent a chance to shine on a major stage. In the four years we have been doing the Festival this is the best local lineup we've had. So much so that we felt we needed to dedicate a whole night (July 11th at powerHouse)to it as well as put Fresh Daily on the Main Stage (July 12th at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park),' said Festival Executive Director Wes Jackson.

Also joining the lineup for a second year is mixtape king J Period. Besides helping to keep the crowd rolling and a rocking, J Period will be bringing a cadre of special guests to from his critically acclaimed mix tapes.

Rounding out this week's announcements is newcomer Zaki Ibrahim. Zaki's music is captivating and vibrant. It's thick with poetics and steeped in a delicious mixture of earnest emotion and social commentary. Born in Vancouver, BC and raised between South Africa and Canada's West Coast, Zaki spent her life moving between two worlds and there was a constant cultural diversity blending her world together. Raised by South African father and Scottish/English mother, her home was full of fruitful debate, musical inspiration and societal education. Zaki will be filling the "funk soul sensation slot" that other wonderful soul acts, Emily King, Leela James and Maya Azucena, have rocked in past Festivals.
