ILL MIND WINS PRODUCER BATTLE IN ILLADELPHIA

'ILL MIND' WINS RED BULL BIG TUNE PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL MUSIC PRODUCER BATTLE
The city of brotherly love kicked off the 2008 Red Bull Big Tune Tour - the nations premiere music producer program. Twelve aspiring beatsmiths took the stage at Fillmore at The Theater of Living Arts packed deep with nearly 800 audience members in the first of eight regional competitions. Ill Mind of New Jersey was crowned the winner and Ritz- a Philadelphia native, earned runner up. Both will advance to the finals in New York City in December.

Notable Philadelphia recording artists, Ninth Wonder, Bahamadia, Freeway and Rich Medina performed in between battles, keeping the crowd on their toes and bouncing to the beat.

Part of the Red Bull Big Tune program includes educating the next generation of music producers. Prior to the beat battle, event creators, Vitamin D, Jake One, and Jonathan Moore hosted an intimate music workshop for a handful young aspiring musicians from Arts in Motion, Youth Empowerment Services, Junior Music Academy of Philadelphia where they demonstrated the art of creating beats and discussed business tips for entering and navigating the music industry.

Big Tune began as the brainchild of DJ/producer/emcee Vitamin D and Hip Hop visionary/event producer Jonathan Moore, in 2004 with the purpose of bringing emerging and established talent to the forefront. After three years of hosting thriving local battles in Seattle, they forged a creative partnership with Red Bull and the event evolved beyond a beat battle into a dynamic national producer program.

The next stop on the Red Bull Big Tune tour is Oakland, CA where twelve more participants will take the stage on May 29th to find out what producer in Northern California has the next big tune.

Other regional battles will be hosted in Houston, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, Washington, DC, and Long Beach, Calif. The top 2 producers from each city will square-off in December 2008 at the Red Bull Big Tune National Finals in New York City.

The winner of the finals will receive custom studio equipment and an opportunity to collaborate with a recording artist of his/her choice in the prestigious Red Bull Studios/ Santa Monica, Calif. Last years Red Bull Big Tune winner opted to work with Young Buck. Other artists available for collaboration were Redman and Talib Kweli.
